About Alannah Eames
I have an honors degree in Law and French from University College Galway in Ireland where I studied media, criminal, European and contract law.
Law is a fascinating subject but a career pouring over legal books in my home country wasn’t for me. After graduating, I spent a year traveling in Europe before coming back to Ireland and joining the sales and marketing department of the Jurys-Doyle Hotel Group, one of Ireland’s leading hotel chain, and the Scottish Stakis Hotel Group which later became part of the Hilton chain.
In 1999, I joined the Media Plus media agency in Belgium as an international journalist. For six years I compiled country reports which were published in leading international newspapers like the New York Daily News, New York Observer, New York Post, New York Newsday and Die Zeit and produced TV documentaries for CNBC Europe and Fox 5 TV. I worked in over 20 countries across the globe stretching from South Africa to Iceland and from Kazakhstan to Trinidad & Tobago, interviewing prime ministers, leading politicians, CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and gathering a wealth of information about international business and different cultures. My work took me everywhere from vodka-drinking sessions with tobacco companies in Armenia and a visit to the Toblerone factory in Switzerland to climbing down gold-mine shafts in Johannesburg and touring fish farms in the Norwegian fjords giving me an invaluable insight into different industries and business cultures.
In 2005 I took a Diploma in Internet Journalism at the London School of Journalism and set up my own freelance journalism and editing business. Today, I specialize in business and travel journalism, editing and project management for print, online and television media. I cover just about everything from wind energy, corporate strategy, shipping and finance to safari features and restaurant reviews.
“The mind’s like a parachute. It works best when it’s open” is my favorite motto and I like to keep my mind alert by interviewing interesting people, exploring new industries, mingling with different cultures and traveling. Variety is the spice of life! Find out more under “Services” and “Portfolio”.
